Choosing Between Manual And Automatic Transmission

Today, manual transmission already becomes quite a solid piece of engineering and it won’t break easily. Unlike automatic transmission, your manual transmission should have compression braking. On the other hand, automatic transmission is more comfortable to use. The car won’t stall when you traverse difficult locations at low speed. Off-roading with automatic transmission may be quite comfortable, but you will need to worry about other facts, such as stall rpm, torque converter flash rpm, vehicle speed, shift point rpm, tranny pan leaks, burned fluid, uncovered sump pickups, plugged coolers, overheating, loss of fluids and other issues. During emergency situations, you should make sure that you will be able to quickly toggle between reverse and neutral.

With manual transmission, you should have much less to worry about. Loss of fluids, grinding bearings, bad synchros and slipping clutch will less likely to happen. With manual transmission, you will have no problem keeping things manageable. Automatic transmission fails more easily and you will need to call tow truck to bring the car to the nearest mechanic’s shop. Automatic transmission may also require a jump start if the battery dies for some reasons. However, with a manual transmission you will only need a push start. Manual transmission should sap less horse power and is typically easier to repair. The manual transmission should also create less heat, require less maintenance and generally last longer. When the oil becomes contaminated, the automatic transmission could stop working. When you are on steep hills, automatic transmission could starve for oil and this could halt forward movement of your car. As long as the bearings and the gears get a splash of lubricants, manual transmission should be able to last as long as it should be.
